Day 106: Breakfast Protein Coffee Shake

Original Source: Fit is the New Black

(There's no link here for the site or the recipe, because apparently it's gone away. Therefore, I'm posting the recipe here until someone has a problem with that.)

I'm not a superfan of blender drinks. There are only a handful I really like ( most have tequila)... and I'm not a coffee drinker. But My Guy and Teen Boy are, and they both like their protein shakes ( Teen Boy more than My Guy). So I figured I'd try this for them. Keep in mind, I wasn't going to taste it. No can do. So the opinions are solely theirs.

They liked it. I felt it was kind of a meh-like, rather than a rah-rah like. But they both said to keep the recipe. However, My Guy claims to only taste the banana so next time I'll use a stronger coffee. The bit I accidentally licked off my finger tasted overwhelmingly of coffee to me, though. Teen Boy said, "I don't know how he didn't taste the coffee."

So I think My Guy was wrong!

RECIPE:

2 handfuls of ice
♠ 1 scoop of vanilla or chocolate protein powder.
♠ 1/2 frozen banana (I actually used a whole one because it was really runny)
♠ 1 cup of brewed coffee-choose whatever flavor you like
♠ 1 cup of milk of your choice (I used 1% cow's milk for my guys)
♠ Truvia to taste- You can also use Stevia liquid , or whatever other type of sweetener you like

Blend, pour, drink, & enjoy! (or not)

Day 104: Apple Pie Moonshine

Original Source: My Catholic Kitchen
I planned on making this for Thanksgiving... I wanted to put them in little mason jars as take home gifts for the sixteen people I was feeding. Instead, I gave this privilege to My Guy. And wow, did he do it justice! Except... there weren't many jars left for people to take home! We passed them to neighbors and friends and he even took one to each of the six physical therapists who've helped him since his knee surgery in October.

THEY ALL wanted the recipe. We fill up about 10 jars, and ended up with only 2 left... even the extra gallon in the fridge was gone before Thanksgiving was over. Since then, his therapists and a few friends have asked for and received the recipe.

So  yeah, this was a winner!

NOTE: we did not use the berries or the cracked nutmeg.

No pictures, sorry. As with most of my Thanksgiving recipes, things simply got too chaotic to capture each thing! But definitely try this one... unless you're a teetotaler :D

Day 50: Spicy Lemon Water

Original Source: Me

This morning I decided to get creative. I’ve heard alot of people talk about hot lemon water, and as much as I love hot tea, and lemon, (never combined!), I don’t know why I hadn’t tried it before. So, I filled my tumbler with hot water, half a lemon’s juice, and then put on a tsp of cayenne (yes, thats more than a pinch but I wasn’t following a recipe and I like spicy so whatever). I splashed in a bit of agave nectar too, which I’d skip next time since I didn’t notice it was even in there. The result? A very tasty, spicy way to start my morning.

After I sat down to sip, I decided to google hot lemon drinks and found this one. It’s nearly identical, minus the agave and she gives a nice breakdown of the nutritional reasons for the drink! Please take a minute to read if you’re interested in the drink. Which you should be. Because it’s awesome.
